Type AElectrostatic class

Type A FIBC bulk bags, the standard super sack.

Plain woven polypropylene bulk bags with no electrostatic protection. The most economical FIBC for non-flammable products handled away from combustible dust and solvent vapours.

What Type A means

No static control, by design.

A Type A FIBC is made from ordinary woven polypropylene. It has no conductive threads, no antistatic treatment and no grounding point. That keeps it simple and inexpensive, and it is the right choice for the large majority of dry bulk goods that carry no ignition risk.

  • No grounding needed Nothing to connect, test or monitor during filling or discharge.
  • Full range of builds U-panel, 4-panel, circular, baffle, conical and loop styles are all available as Type A.
  • Every closure and liner option Spout, duffle, open or flap tops; spout, flat or full-drop bottoms; PE and barrier liners.
  • Food-contact builds Food-grade Type A bags are available; ask for documentation for your product.
Application fit

Is Type A the right bag for your product?

Use this as a first screen. Your own hazard assessment, product data and local codes decide the final answer.

Suited to

Where Type A fits

  • Sand, gravel, crushed stone and other aggregates
  • Fertilizer, lime, salt and de-icing products
  • Grain, seed, beans and pellets for feed
  • Plastic regrind, recycled flake and resin pellets with no flammable dust
  • Construction debris, soil, mulch and landscaping material
  • Minerals and ores that are not combustible
Not suited to

Where it does not

  • Flammable solvents, vapours or gases in the filling or discharge area
  • Combustible dusts such as flour, starch, coal, sulphur, metal powders or fine plastics
  • Any area classified as hazardous (Class II, Zone 20/21/22, ATEX or equivalent)
  • Fine powders that form a dust cloud while filling
  • Products whose minimum ignition energy is not known

This guide describes bag construction. It is not a hazardous-area classification. Confirm the product's minimum ignition energy and your area rating with your safety officer before choosing a type.

How to order

Three details get you an exact quote.

01

Your product

Name, bulk density and, for powders, the minimum ignition energy if you have it.

02

Your handling

Fill weight, fill and discharge method, lifting setup and whether the area is classified.

03

Your volume

Dimensions, quantity per order or per quarter, and delivery location in Canada or the USA.

Common questions

Type A FIBC, answered.

01Can a Type A bag carry flour or sugar?

We do not recommend it. Both create combustible dust clouds when filled or emptied. Run a hazard assessment and move to Type C or D if the product is combustible.

02Does a Type A bag need grounding?

No. It has no conductive path to ground, so grounding does nothing useful. That is also why it cannot be used where static ignition is a risk.

03Can I convert a Type A bag later?

No. The electrostatic type is set by the fabric at manufacture. Specify it correctly on the first order.

04Are Type A bags reusable?

Order a 6:1 multi-trip build if you plan to reuse them. 5:1 bags are designed for a single trip.
