Type D FIBC bulk bags, antistatic with no ground wire.
Static-dissipative fabric that releases charge into the air as low-energy corona discharge, so protection does not depend on a ground connection being made.
Protection built into the fabric.
Type D bags are woven with antistatic yarns that discharge accumulated static as low-energy corona discharges. These are too weak to ignite a flammable atmosphere. Because the bag does not rely on grounding, there is no tab to forget and no cable to connect, which removes the most common point of failure in hazardous bulk handling.
- Works without earthing Safe whether or not the bag touches a grounded surface.
- Tested to IEC 61340-4-4 Incendivity of the fabric is checked, not assumed.
- Good for mixed crews Contractors, temporary staff and busy lines do not need to manage a ground connection.
- Fabric condition matters Tears, contamination and wear can reduce performance. Inspect before use and do not reuse damaged bags.
Is Type D the right bag for your product?
Use this as a first screen. Your own hazard assessment, product data and local codes decide the final answer.
Where Type D fits
- Combustible powders with a minimum ignition energy of 3 mJ or less
- Atmospheres where flammable vapours or gases may be present, after your own hazard assessment
- Plants where grounding is hard to guarantee or monitor
- Mixed-use areas with multiple operators and contractors
- Bags moved by truck, conveyor or crane between filling and discharge
Where it does not
- Use with an insulating liner that has not been checked for compatibility
- Reuse of a damaged or contaminated bag
- Any area where your safety officer has not confirmed suitability
- Substituting for Type C when the process requires a monitored ground
- Applications with no electrostatic risk, where Type A or B will do the job for less

This guide describes bag construction. It is not a hazardous-area classification. Confirm the product's minimum ignition energy and your area rating with your safety officer before choosing a type.
Three details get you an exact quote.
Your product
Name, bulk density and, for powders, the minimum ignition energy if you have it.
Your handling
Fill weight, fill and discharge method, lifting setup and whether the area is classified.
Your volume
Dimensions, quantity per order or per quarter, and delivery location in Canada or the USA.
Type D FIBC, answered.
01Does a Type D bag ever need grounding?
No. It is designed to work without. Some sites ground it anyway as part of a general policy, which does no harm.
02Is Type D safer than Type C?
It is more forgiving, because it does not depend on a person or system making a ground connection. Both are designed for the same class of hazard when used correctly.
03Can Type D go in a hazardous area?
Area classification and bag suitability are a safety-officer decision. We provide the bag type and documentation; the assessment of your site is yours.
04Why not use Type D for everything?
It costs more than Type A or B. If the product and area carry no electrostatic risk, the cheaper bag is the better choice.
