Type CElectrostatic class

Type C FIBC bulk bags, grounded to dissipate static.

Woven polypropylene with a grid of conductive yarn, connected to ground through a dedicated tab. When the ground is made and checked, charge leaves the bag safely. If it is not, protection is lost.

What Type C means

Safe only while it is grounded.

A Type C FIBC has conductive threads woven through the fabric in a grid and joined to one or more ground tabs. Connected to a verified earth point, the bag cannot hold dangerous charge. Without that connection, a Type C bag is no better than an ordinary one and can be worse, because the conductive grid can hold charge and release it as a spark.

  • Ground tab on every bag Clip to a verified earth point before the first product moves, and keep it connected until the bag is empty.
  • Resistance to ground ≤ 10⁸ Ω The target under IEC 61340-4-4. Check continuity as part of routine use.
  • Ground monitoring available Interlock systems stop the line if the connection is lost.
  • Liners must be compatible Use conductive or static-dissipative liners. A plain PE liner defeats the design.
Application fit

Is Type C the right bag for your product?

Use this as a first screen. Your own hazard assessment, product data and local codes decide the final answer.

Suited to

Where Type C fits

  • Combustible powders with a minimum ignition energy of 3 mJ or less
  • Operations where flammable solvent vapours may be present
  • Chemical, pigment, pharmaceutical-intermediate and fine powder handling
  • Plants with a controlled, trained workforce and a working ground system
  • Lines where the ground connection can be monitored automatically
Not suited to

Where it does not

  • Sites where grounding is not reliably done every time
  • Filling or discharge with contractors or temporary staff who are not trained
  • Handling on vehicles or surfaces that cannot be earthed
  • Use with an insulating liner
  • Storage or transport where the bag is mistaken for a bag that needs no ground

This guide describes bag construction. It is not a hazardous-area classification. Confirm the product's minimum ignition energy and your area rating with your safety officer before choosing a type.

How to order

Three details get you an exact quote.

01

Your product

Name, bulk density and, for powders, the minimum ignition energy if you have it.

02

Your handling

Fill weight, fill and discharge method, lifting setup and whether the area is classified.

03

Your volume

Dimensions, quantity per order or per quarter, and delivery location in Canada or the USA.

Common questions

Type C FIBC, answered.

01What happens if a Type C bag is not grounded?

It stops protecting you. Static can build on the conductive grid and discharge as a spark, which is why every fill and discharge must start with a ground check.

02How do I check the ground?

Measure resistance from the bag's ground tab to earth, or use a ground-monitoring system that proves the connection continuously.

03Type C or Type D?

If you can ground reliably every time, Type C works. If grounding is hard to guarantee, Type D removes that dependency.

04Can Type C bags go into a hazardous area?

Classification of the area and the suitability of the bag are decisions for your safety officer. We supply the bag and its documentation; we do not certify your site.
